You've got yourself a camera - or you've dusted off one you've had for a little while and you'd like to know how to take better photos with it. This is the class for you.First up we'll discuss a little bit about your camera, what the dials and buttons on each camera do. We'll talk a little bit about why your images are really bright or really dark, and then we'll add in a bit of the photo lingo like Aperture, ISO, and Shutter speed. We'll discuss some priority modes if your camera has them, and what lenses you're using.Mostly we're going to focus on composition, and getting settings to work for you. This is a class designed to get your more comfortable with a camera in your hands, and taking more photos than before, and hopefully you like them a little better too.

Getting out of Auto, Guide to Priority Modes, The Exposure Triangle, & Shooting in full Manual

Saturday 15 February
Newtown Linford - 10am - 3 Hours

Teaching you how to fully control your images for correct exposure and some artistic expression and flare! We'll be starting out by looking at what your camera can do, and how you can make the camera do some of the work for you, while you still get to create the look you want.
Once we understand the two main settings for artistic expression, we'll talk about the exposure triangle - Aperture, Shutter Speed, and the third item we have been ignoring, ISO.
Once we understand the effect that Aperture and Shutter Speed can have on an image, and how we can use that to create a specific look, we'll add in ISO, and switch out to full manual.

The goal of this class is to teach you how to create the image you're looking for, getting proper exposure, what the main settings on your camera do, how to use those settings to control the image, and hopefully give you the ability and confidence to start shooting in manual mode more often.

Macro Photography Meetup

Macro Photography Meetup

Sunday 23 February
Bradgate Rd., Newtown Linford - 10am - 2 Hours
Leicester Photography Group
Anthony Tanton
Macro Photography is about the little details, from the texture of a single blade of grass, to the layers in a dandelion.

To capture the details we typically get very close, and make small things big, we might use very specialised equipment.

We'll be focusing on the principles of macro photography, techniques we can use, and how to best use equipment you have available, so that when you have a subject like insets and small flying creatureas, you're ready to go!

We will briefly discuss the use of lighting equipment to emphasise and assist macro photography.

Capturing images is only half the work, and far too often we neglect to work on our editing and post processing skills to the same degree as we work on our skills with the camera. This class aims to give you the skills and knowledge to feel confident in photo editing software to create final images that are ready to be printed and displayed or shared on socials. We'll be going over how to import images, what is a preset, the function of the basic panels within Lightroom, how to edit lighting, colour, cropping and levelling, and more advanced techniques like dodging and burning, masking, and most importantly, how to export and save your edited images.I'll send out some test images so we can edit them together, if you have your own images you'd like to ask about please feel free, as always there will be time for questions throughout.

I enjoy watching wildlife programmes, it reminds us that life is beautiful and fragile. The Amur Leopard is both beautiful and lives in a fragile world that has pushed it to being endangered. This is the second one I've done to try and capture this in a painting, from videos by wildlife photographer Sondre Eriksen.

Title or Location: Monochromatic study
I love monochromatic studies, allowing me to use the full range of the scale values it does not matter you paint an object, a portrait or a landscape, monochromatic studies are always challenging. In this case I painted this jug in oils on a 8x8? canvas panel, with mixes of raw umber, ivory black and titanium white into a range of values. Own reference picture.

This is a collage which I painted in 2019 following a trip to Thailand which my husband and I took that summer to visit some asylum seekers who we have come to know.It is called ?Hidden in Plain Sight? since one of the people in the painting is an asylum seeker, viewed from behind. The asylum seekers who we were visiting had fled their home country due to severe persecution. They had travelled to Thailand on a tourist visa. When their visa expired they ?slipped underground?. Title or Location: Winter white
This painting depict a garden of winter white blooms. Soft edges and beautiful greens makes it comforting. Coming out of my imagination, as I don't have a garden of winter beauty only desert dryness. I find joy in these blooms of winter white. I hope the beholder of this painting feels the tranquility of it.

Title or Location: Grangemouth oil refinery
It was a day out at Culross a very picturesque historic town in Fife. Because of the olde ye appearance it has featured in the TV series Outlander and the film of the book Kidnapped written by Robert Louis Stevenson?s. The whole place is photogenic. I had a thought about all the artists and photographers that have graced the its streets and it must be in thousands. I wonder how many have ever produced a rendering of the oil refinery on the other bank of the Forth.

Clouds fascinate me, constantly changing shape and color. This painting is of the front pasture with a dash of artistic license. The willow tree towers in the middle of a wet weather creek and begged to be painted.(There is no box for my website, so I hesitated to input it, but would appreciate a mention if allowed....FeliciaLWhite.com. Thanks.)
